Article: Papakura City Ardmore School team
Every Thursday night for the last few weeks I have been helping out coaching the 9th grade Papakura City Ardmore School team. They are a bunch to watch out for. The first night was a little awkward, however after a few minutes we were getting along nicely. The one thing I noticed straight away was that they’re a very energetic team, they just don’t stop running.
Nathaniel Johnston is in goal and there is a solid defence line consisting of Jayden Gibson, Zak Myers and Cohen Rowe. Also with Jason Toatoa, Matty Goldfinch and Alecandro Lopez in the middle livening up the game, with little magical runs and through balls. (Alecandro is a young Uruguayan lad and foreign import. Look out Gutty, Pablo, Raffa and Eduardo he is coming up the ranks.) It is no wonder the 2 team strikers, Adam Webb and Griffin Morgan were averaging close to 2 goals per game. They have managed to go the entire grading round season undefeated with a goal difference in the double figures. I am proud to be a part of it and proud to call them my team. Daniel Billot plays in the Papakura Men’s 1st division team and is the Papakura City Ardmore School team’s Ambassador. He is the first Ambassador to link with a younger team from the first team and hopefully next season more may follow. The coaches state that the kids love him and he is a nice guy to have around. He brings his skill and youth to the team and has an empathy with them that we are proud to have around.
The lads in the Papakura City Ardmore Team have been coached this year by Courtney Mortenson and Frederick Webb and have just been promoted to the 9th Grade First Division. It is an uphill struggle for them from here. The team know that with Daniel on board we will try to make the rest of the season productive even if we don’t do as well. However it only takes one goal to win a game and the lads would turn up to play knowing we have a hard road.
It is important to note that Big Stu Greenaway, Sean Smit and Phil Parker from the first team have also been to watch the lads and really enjoyed it. The parents at the games were impressed with them taking the timeout. They picked player of the day, Magic moment and did a team speeches at the end of the game. Great stuff guys! It is good to see them giving back to our juniors who one day will be part of an ever growing club and one we want to ensure is the best in the South of Auckland.
